Practical answers for travelers planning private Afghanistan journeys.

Plan with confidence

Questions before you travel

Practical answers from a Kabul-based tour operator, organized around the decisions travelers make before booking and before arrival.

Planning & Booking

Are your tours fixed or private?

Most AfghanTours itineraries are designed for private parties and can be adjusted around dates, interests, comfort level, and practical route conditions.

Can you build a fully custom itinerary?

Yes. Tell us your dates, priorities, preferred comfort level, and places you want to visit. We can build a journey from scratch or modify an existing itinerary.

How far in advance should I contact you?

Several weeks or months is ideal, particularly when visa documentation, specialist logistics, seasonal routes, or premium accommodation are involved. Short-notice requests can still be reviewed.

Do you work with solo travelers and private groups?

Yes. We plan journeys for solo travelers, couples, families, private groups, professional visitors, and specialist teams.

Visas & Documentation

Can you help with a Letter of Invitation?

Letter of Invitation support is included for confirmed booked tours where it is required. AfghanTours does not issue visas; final visa decisions remain with the relevant authorities.

Do you arrange provincial permissions?

Where an itinerary requires provincial registrations, permissions, or local coordination, we handle or coordinate the practical process associated with the confirmed route.

What documents should I travel with?

Requirements depend on nationality and itinerary. We provide pre-trip guidance for confirmed travelers, while passports, visas, insurance, and any personal regulatory requirements remain the traveler’s responsibility.

Safety & Route Planning

How do you plan travel around current conditions?

Routes are reviewed around road access, timing, weather, seasonal conditions, local coordination, practical overnight points, and the requirements of the itinerary.

Can the itinerary change after booking?

Yes. Conditions can change, so route sequence, timing, transport, accommodation, or individual stops may be adjusted when necessary.

Do you prefer daytime road movement?

Daylight movement is preferred where practical. Drive times and overnight points are planned around realistic road conditions rather than map distance alone.

What happens if a destination becomes impractical to visit?

We discuss the available alternatives and adjust the itinerary rather than forcing a route that no longer makes practical sense.

Hotels & Upgrades

What accommodation is included?

Each itinerary identifies the standard accommodation planned for the journey. Hotel standards vary by city and province.

Can I request premium or luxury hotels?

Yes. Where suitable options are available, premium or luxury upgrades can be requested for all or selected nights at additional cost.

Can I upgrade only part of my trip?

Yes. Tell us which hubs or nights matter most to you and we can quote available upgrades without rebuilding the entire itinerary.

Transportation

Are airport transfers available?

Yes. Airport pickup, hotel transfers, and departure-day transport can be coordinated for confirmed travelers.

What vehicles do you use?

Vehicle choice depends on the route, group size, terrain, season, luggage, and comfort requirements. City sedans, SUVs, vans, and higher-clearance 4x4s may be used.

Do you arrange domestic flights?

Domestic flights can be incorporated where schedules, weather, availability, and route logic make flying more practical than driving.

How are remote and mountain routes handled?

Remote routes are planned around road condition, season, daylight, vehicle suitability, fuel, driver familiarity, and realistic travel times.

Food & Culture

Are meals included?

Meal inclusions vary by itinerary. Each tour should state what is included, and additional restaurant or food experiences can be added during planning.

Can you accommodate dietary requirements?

Tell us about dietary needs in advance. We will plan around them where practical, recognizing that availability can be more limited outside major cities.

Can cultural experiences be added to a tour?

Yes. Markets, crafts, food stops, local traditions, photography interests, and regional experiences can be incorporated where they fit the route and timing.

Practical Travel

How should I handle money?

Cash remains important for travel in Afghanistan. We provide practical pre-trip guidance to confirmed travelers on currency handling and day-to-day spending.

Is mobile internet available?

Mobile data and hotel Wi-Fi are available in many populated areas, but reliability varies by provider and destination. Do not assume continuous connectivity on remote routes.

What should I wear?

Travelers should dress modestly and follow current local guidance. We provide practical clothing advice before arrival based on season, itinerary, and traveler needs.

What should I know about photography?

Always follow guide instructions and ask before photographing people. Government, military, checkpoint, infrastructure, and other sensitive locations may have restrictions.

Specialist Travel

Can you support photographers, researchers, or media teams?

Yes. Specialist planning can include route design, drivers, guides, translators, accommodation, local coordination, production logistics, and project-specific requirements.

Do you support business visitors and delegations?

Yes. We can coordinate practical ground support, transport, accommodation, scheduling, and locally appropriate travel logistics around the visitor’s objectives.

Can you help with veteran or return visits?

Yes. Return visits can be planned around former locations, personal objectives, practical access, current conditions, and the level of privacy or support required.
